- ➤ The Better Business Bureau Serving Northern Indiana is launching a trades scholarship program to help students cover costs for tools, protective clothing and other essentials when starting in skilled trades. - ➤ ACPL is launching the new Child’s First Library Card, featuring a kid-friendly design available to families starting at birth. It gives full access to books, digital resources, and free programs, and staff will help link the card for tracking checkouts. US 93.3
- ➤ The Indiana Senate approved Senate Bill 78 (36-12 vote) to ban student cellphones from classrooms for the entire school day, and if signed by Governor Mike Braun, schools statewide will enforce the new policy effective July 1, 2026. WFFT-TV
- ➤ The Indiana Senate passed a bill banning cellphones during class hours + a success sequence measure that teaches students work and family values; both bills now head to Gov. Braun’s desk, with the cellphone ban set to take effect on July 1 if signed. 21Alive
- ➤ The Garrett-Keyser-Butler board previewed new renderings for J.E. Ober Elementary School in Garrett — the design features art and collaboration spaces, an open cafeteria commons, a media center, flexible reading areas, and more, presented by Cory Miller and Laura Putnam from Elevatus Architecture. - ➤ Northwest Allen County Schools launched an education foundation to support 8,300 students by connecting community support to teachers, classrooms, and programs, and is set to narrow its board candidate pool from 40 to 12. Its initial fundraising reached 50% of the $75,000 goal, Superintendent Wayne Barker said at Monday's meeting. The Journal Gazette

- ➤ Thirteen new firefighters graduated tonight at the Public Safety Academy, and some will begin duty at Fort Wayne engine houses tomorrow (Feb. 27) as the department expands its team. Around Fort Wayne
- ➤ The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will investigate the state's five largest investor-owned utility companies (rising customer concerns over high energy bills prompted the move). New chair Andy Zay said service affordability and reliability have become unbalanced for many. US 93.3
- ➤ The Capital Improvement Board approved up to $1.5 million for the nearly 30-acre North River District north of the MLK Jr. Memorial Bridge. An initial $182,500 will fund PB Development's master planning services & the remaining funds are pending a March 9 Redevelopment Commission vote. 21Alive
