COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters is hosting Bowl For Kids’ Sake with a Game Changers sports theme in Allen County. Teams of five will bowl for free and raise funds to support youth mentorship at Crazy Pinz on Sat, Feb. 21 and Sun, March 1, as well as at Thunderbowl on Thu, March 5 + registration is online.  The Waynedale News
  • The 53rd Annual Fort Wayne Home and Garden Show returns Feb. 26 — Mar. 1 at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum with over 650 exhibitors and interactive, family-friendly events including Twiggy’s water-skiing shows, Bella Gantt’s archery act, and pet adoption discounts by Humane Fort Wayne.  The Waynedale News
  • In late 2025, emergency shelters saw rising demand as more women and families sought refuge amid economic pressures, with the YWCA shelter operating at full capacity in its new facility on West Washington Center Road. Staff noted that families began arriving earlier and staying longer than in previous years.  The Journal Gazette
  • Fourteen couples exchanged vows at Citizens Square yesterday as the city provided free officiations for Valentine’s Day Eve.  WFFT-TV
  • Mumsie, an 8-year-old pit mix from Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control (FWACC), is available for adoption after being featured in Paws-itively Pets. Interested families can contact FWACC for details on giving her a new home.  WFFT-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Chief Richardville House, built in 1827 and now managed by the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society, is one of the oldest Native American buildings in the Midwest. Visitors can explore it (open from May to November) to learn about Miami Nation treaty history.  The Waynedale News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bishop Luers High School hosted Sodalitas Day, where students, faculty and staff supported local organizations in Fort Wayne by making sack lunches (300 prepared), tying 1,000 ribbons for breast cancer awareness, and creating blankets and thank you notes for veterans.  The Waynedale News
  • Ivy Tech Fort Wayne’s student-run clinic Healthy Essence is now open and offers full-body massages for $25 for students and $30 for the public in Fort Wayne. Clients can call 260-480-2094 to schedule appointments as hours vary.  WFFT-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Allen County commissioners approved a $100,000 investment at Do It Best’s Electric Works campus to expand operations and create 180 jobs by the end of 2028. The expansion will add 60 new jobs this year with an average hourly wage of $46.82 (one commissioner expressed concern over more funding).  The Journal Gazette
  • The Fort Wayne Housing Authority hosted a ribbon cutting for Hillcrest Commons on Feb. 3, 2026. The new 24 unit, energy efficient building offers one-bedroom permanent supportive housing with a community kitchen + fitness room and outdoor courtyard on the historic site of the former Hillcrest School.  The Waynedale News
  • Fort Wayne residents can now apply for the Citizen-Match Residential Street Tree Program — a $50 service offering professionally planted trees ranging from 6 to 10 feet tall. Trees will be planted by the City Arborist from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 after application review and site approval.  WFFT-TV
  • Southbound Bluffton Road is closed for a new natural gas line between Old Trail and Winchester Roads, with one-lane closures on Engle and Winchester Roads requiring a detour via Engle, Ardmore, and Lower Huntington Roads (trucks must avoid Winchester) until the project ends on April 20.  WFFT-TV

  • A historic downtown building is being restored to offer new housing for local residents (project began Feb. 13). The initiative is expected to revitalize the area by creating modern living spaces in a cherished landmark.  21Alive

  • Stacker released a list of Indiana’s top Class of 2027 football recruits using 247Sports data. The list names Monshun Sales as the highest-rated prospect and includes Maalik Moore and Mason Oglesby (from local high schools), promising a boost in recruiting momentum.  KPC News
