COMMUNITY NEWS

  • As cold weather and snow settle in, Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control urges pet owners to follow a city ordinance requiring animals to be brought indoors when temperatures fall below 10 degrees and kept sheltered for no more than 15 minutes — free straw is available if needed.  21Alive
  • City leaders partnered with warming shelters yesterday to extend services and add new locations that will offer safe, warm shelter on cold nights. Officials said the measures will help more residents as winter sets in.  21Alive
  • The Do it Best Foundation approved over $210,000 in grants for community organizations today. Local groups like School Care Team + American Heart Association in Fort Wayne received funds, with recipients also in Ohio, Texas, Illinois, Missouri, and Nevada.  The Journal Gazette
  • City Utilities closed the 2900 block of Broadway (between Home and Cottage) yesterday while crews repaired a water main that took between four and six hours, causing local traffic delays.  US 93.3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ivy Tech Fort Wayne began the school year with over 6,200 degree-seeking students and nearly 19,000 total, surpassing Purdue as it launches nearly $70 million renovations to its Student Life Center and nursing facility to boost enrollment by 35% while competing for a national Aspen Prize.  The Journal Gazette
  • FWCS strength training classes now include tailored coaching from Parkview Sports Medicine to help students boost confidence and performance during the school day — approved through 2027-28 with an $860K investment, the program creates equitable expert training at all five high schools.  The Journal Gazette

  • A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday evening in Allen County. Heavy snow, frigid temperatures, and icy roads may cause travel delays, so residents are urged to plan their trips carefully.  US 93.3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fort Wayne residents are advised to limit exposure as temperatures plunge below freezing. Dr. Thomas Gutwein of Parkview Health stressed planning ahead to avoid falls, frostbite and hypothermia in the cold weather.  KPC News
