COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local nonprofits partnered on MLK Day to distribute backpacks and winter supplies to homeless residents in Fort Wayne to help them face extreme cold. The event was held at several community sites with aid provided by volunteers (highlighting local support).  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Wayne’s Winter Contingency Plan is active and offers overnight shelter at The Rescue Mission, St. Joseph Missions Women’s Shelter, and Just Neighbors from Dec. 1 to March 31, with The Salvation Army serving families when needed. Warming centers open at local sites (including the library) as temperatures drop.  WOWO
  • Fort Wayne Utilities Field Operations will repair a water main on East State Boulevard today at 8:00 a.m.—westbound lanes near the North Anthony intersection will close and traffic will shift to one eastbound lane in each direction for the day.  WFFT-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Parkview Health partnered (Jan. 13) with Undue Medical Debt to remove $64.13M in debt for 35,694 patients, mostly in Indiana and Ohio. Eligible patients have already received letters so no further action is needed.  KPC News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Townsend Hill Holdings got a 10-year tax abatement to build a 14,000-square-foot rock climbing gym near Crazy Pinz Entertainment Center and Phantom Fireworks off Lima Road, approved by city council last week. The $3.5-million project will create two full-time jobs and 10 part-time roles as the developer seeks funding.  The Journal Gazette
