EDUCATION NEWS

  • Farmers market vendors and managers can attend in-person training sessions from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on January 27, February 3, February 10, and February 17 at Discovery Hall (1202 E. 38th St.) to learn legal issues, food safety regulations, market stability, and conflict management; registration costs $75.  US 93.3
  • Applications for the Fort Wayne Zoo's Lawrence A. Ackerman Scholarship are now open for college-bound seniors in eligible counties to earn a one-time $3,000 award supporting animal-related careers; applicants must show academic achievement, financial need, and commitment to animal stewardship, with applications due by March 1.  21Alive
  • The Indiana Department of Education announced about $10 million from a federal EIR grant (in partnership with Notre Dame and WestEd) to expand high-impact tutoring aimed at boosting literacy statewide, especially in rural and underserved areas.   • Google donated $30,000 to Questa Education Foundation, a Fort Wayne nonprofit that helps students cut college debt with forgivable loans. The boost will expand the Questa Scholars Program in high demand STEM fields + ease funding shortages reported by the group.  The Journal Gazette
  • Huntington University has grown its Christian-based agricultural studies program to serve more than 120 students, offering majors from animal science to vet medicine with a focus on faith, family + farming.   • Mayor Sharon Tucker and Fire Chief Eric Lahey announced that Fort Wayne firefighters Kamron Bell and Nicholas Racioppi were promoted to lieutenant at the fire department, with Bell working as an advanced EMT and hazmat team member + Racioppi serving on the water rescue team.  21Alive

  • Undue Medical Debt leader explained a new partnership with Parkview Health to forgive $64M in medical debt for community members & ease financial burdens. A press release published yesterday detailed plans for rolling out the forgiveness program.  21Alive
