EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana lawmakers are considering a bill to ban cell phones and other wireless devices in schools to create a uniform policy addressing concerns over learning and mental health (with exceptions for disabilities, emergencies, and language access); testimony was heard in the Senate Education Committee, but no vote is scheduled.  WOWO
  • Students in Purdue Fort Wayne's honors program will soon have access to up to $6,000 per year through the Art Friedel Honors Experiential Learning Award. The three-year pilot requires full-time status, a 3.5 GPA and nine honors credits to fund internships, research projects, service learning and study-away experiences.  The Journal Gazette
  • House Bill 1086 (proposed by State Rep. Michelle Davis and colleagues) would require schools to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms and libraries. Its first reading is scheduled for today, and it will be filed next week when the General Assembly meets.  WOWO
